Behind every great public media organization is a strong financial foundation. Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting Corporation (PCBC), home of WESA and WYEP, is looking for an Accountant to join our team and help ensure the financial accuracy, integrity and efficiency that allow our stations to do their best work for the community.
This is a hands-on accounting role for someone who is detail-oriented, organized and service-minded and who takes pride in getting the numbers right. The Accountant will manage a range of day-to-day accounting functions, contribute to month-end close and financial reporting, support audits and grant reporting, and work closely with colleagues across the organization.
This role also provides administrative support to the Executive Management Team, making this an opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and wants to play an important role in the day-to-day operations of a mission-driven organization.
What You'll Do
Accounting & Financial Operations
Record and maintain accurate day-to-day financial transactions.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including weekly accounts payable processing.
Record cash receipts and make bank deposits.
Process general ledger transactions and post journal entries.
Reconcile credit card purchases to monthly statements.
Maintain the petty cash fund.
Assist with the timely and accurate month-end financial close.
Prepare financial and departmental reports as needed.
Ensure accounting practices comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and organizational policies.
Reporting, Compliance & Planning
Assist with internal and external audit preparation and coordination.
Support the Vice President, Finance and Administration in maintaining compliance with financial policies and procedures.
Gather and report historical financial data to support budget planning.
Assist with preparation of grant budgets and grant reporting.
Work with departments across PCBC to ensure revenue is properly identified and recorded.
Prepare 1099s and other required financial forms.
Assist with tax filings and other regulatory requirements.
Administration & Organizational Support
Purchase supplies and equipment as authorized.
Monitor office supply levels and coordinate reordering.
Receive and distribute incoming mail.
Provide administrative and clerical support to management as needed.
Help improve the efficiency and accuracy of financial and administrative processes.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is careful with the details, dependable with deadlines and comfortable taking ownership of their work. You should enjoy working with numbers but also enjoy working with people.

Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Excellent data entry and analytical skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and demonstrate initiative.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in accounting, business or a related field.
At least five years of relevant accounting experience.

Work Environment
This position is based in our Pittsburgh office. Standard business hours are 9:00-5:00 Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work to support organizational events and Board meetings.

We provide competitive salaries in an affordable city. The minimum compensation for this position is $55,000, commensurate with experience and ability. Our full-time exempt employees also get access to an extensive benefits package, including a 403(b) retirement plan with 6% company match, medical, dental and vision, three weeks of vacation, sick time, 10 company holidays and 12 weeks of paid new parent leave.
